The ferry that connects Boblo Island and Amherstberg is now fully operational.
According to ferry operator Amico, the boats have undergone safety inspections and are now running at full capacity. It’s welcomed news for island residents, after the ferries were landlocked for over a week due to thick ice.
A Coast Guard ice breaker was called in over the weekend to clear the last remaining sections of ice.
This is the first time in 10 years Amico was required to implement their contingency plan.
The plan saw Boblo Islanders transported to and from the island via fanboats, where they were met by a shuttle to take them where they needed to go.
