Explore the Shore

It’s time for Explore the Shore along County Road 50. Organizers say they have a special Canadian theme planned for this year’s event. The 2017 theme for Explore the Shores is “Celebrate Canada’s 150th.” The 8th annual event takes place Saturday and Sunday along the historic road on the north shore of Lake Erie, just south of Harrow.  Thirty-eight businesses, recreational facilities and community groups are participating. It features a full slate of activities, live entertainment and local food and beverages.  The Town of Essex is also celebrating the 225th birthday of the Village of Colchester with events at the Colchester Beach and Harbour, ending with fireworks at nightfall. 

Paying Cash: Johnny Cash Tribute Band

You can listen to the music of Johnny Cash on the waters of the Detroit River. Tribute band “Paying Cash” will be performing on-board The Macassa Bay. They’ll crank out some of Cash’s biggest hits like “Ring of Fire” and “Folsom Prison Blues”.  The Windsor River Cruise starts at Festival Plaza at 7 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets are $35 in advance or $40 at the gate.

Amherstburg’s Gone Car Crazy Show

Live music will be pumping from the Car Crazy Stage on Sunday for the 12th Annual Amherstburg’s Gone Car Crazy Show.  The streets will be filled with roaring sounds of car engines as hundreds of car enthusiasts showcase their vehicles. The event features street rods, classic cars, trucks, rat cars, custom street machines, muscle cars, sport cars, luxury rides, tuner cars, 4x4’s, Jeeps and fire trucks. Organizers say it’s fun for all ages in Toddy Jones Park. Admission is free.

All Thunderbird Show

There’s also a free “All Thunderbird Show”at the Canadian Transportation Museum in Essex on Sunday. 11 am – 3 pm,  www.ctmhv.com Canadian Transportaiton Museum – 6155 Arner Townline, Essex.

Spotted in Windsor Water Balloon Fight 2017

The Spotted in Windsor Water Balloon Fight is expected to be the biggest ever with 40,000 water balloons being tossed. It takes place Sunday at 11 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. at Lanspeary Park. The event includes games including obstacle courses, bubble soccer, slip and slide, famous character appearances and more.
