Hôtel-Dieu Grace Hospital emergency staff participated in a mock disaster drill to practice what the hospital would do in the event of a crisis situation.

The drill was part of Essex-Windsor Regional Emergency Management annual disaster planning.

St. Clair College paramedic students acted out the casualties as mock patients.

The exercise allows staff to test their preparedness for a real-life disaster and allow the hospital to identify the effectiveness of “Code Orange” planning and evaluate areas for improvement.

Staff did not know what type of disaster or what kinds of patients they would be responding to until the drill began. The exercise took place in a tent adjacent to the Emergency Department's ambulance bay.
