A man accused of being a “high-risk traveller” will remain behind bars until a future court date.

Mohammed El-Shaer appeared in a Windsor court via teleconference on Monday, but before the case could move forward, it was laid over until Dec.19. El-Shaer is being held in police custody on a charge of passport fraud.

El-Shaer’s defence lawyer says “the matter will be dealt with” at the next court date.

The RCMP previously confirmed to CTV News that El-Shaer was charged with passport-related offences in the past.

A member of Windsor's Islamic community told CTV News in August that authorities were investigating El-Shaer for alleged involvement in the war in Syria.

The RCMP would not confirm if the accused has had any involvement with that conflict.
