A buzz is brewing in downtown Chatham.

It's all because of the makeover of the Old Cinema 6, which has been vacant since the theatre closed in 2011.

It will soon become the Sons of Kent Brewery.

“We want to be part of that revitalization of downtown," says Colin Chrysler, co-founder/head brewer.

"I'm sure most people in Chatham-Kent spent some time in this location and saw some pretty awesome movies."

Soon, they will be able to enjoy a locally brewed beer.

The Sons of Kent met with neighbours back in January to pitch the idea of a brewery.

Proper zoning was issued last spring and construction is well underway.

"It'll be a great, kind of nostalgic atmosphere to come back and experience that old building but now with craft beer."

The goal is to convert the six theatre show rooms into a well-functioning brewery, complete with a tasting facility, outdoor patio, banquet centre and retail store.

There is still a lot of work that needs to be done and there's no definitive date for when the doors will open, but they say it will be sooner rather than later.

The owners say their brew will be available for sampling at the Flights And Flasks Craft Beer And Cider Festival at The Kent this weekend.
