Two Windsor men have been arrested after RCMP seized 540 cartons of illegal cigarettes.

Windsor RCMP concluded the investigation on Monday into the sale and distribution of contraband tobacco products in the area. Officers say they stopped a vehicle and found the illegal cigarettes.

Police also seized the vehicle used to transport the illegal cigarettes.

Robert Lacombe, 50, and Hasan Ali Muhammad, 32, are facing charges.

“The consequences of dealing in illegal tobacco products are serious. Offenders are liable to substantial fines, confiscation of their property and prison terms of up to five years,” says Windsor RCMP Insp. Serge Cote.

The accused are scheduled to appear in a Windsor court on Dec. 9.
