A former Windsor Airport employee has been sentenced to 60 days in jail for stealing money after getting behind on household and medical bills.

Jamie Grabijas, 56, pleaded guilty to theft over $5,000.

Grabijas admitted to stealing nearly $220,000 in provincial court on Thursday.

Assistant Crown Bryan Pillon says Grabijas, who worked in the airport's finance department, began taking money from the airport's coin parking meters and café from April 2, 2012 to December 31, 2015.

Court heard Grabijas expected to pay the money back, but it spiralled out of control when her husband lost his job and was turned down for a disability pension.
