A candlelight vigil at the University of Windsor was held to honour the memory of Dr. Elana Fric-Shamji.
Friends and family gathered in the frigid cold to pray and remember.
The doctor's body was discovered near a roadway in Vaughan.
Authorities believe she was murdered two weeks ago inside her Toronto home.
Fric-Shamji has family in Tecumseh and attended the University of Windsor.
Her husband was charged with first degree-murder on Dec. 2.
Non-perishable items were collected tonight for the Hiatus House, with organizers hoping this tragedy can shine light on woman abuse.
Fric-Shamji's father spoke to CTV News after the vigil saying it's been a very difficult time for his family and he wouldn't wish it on his worst enemy.
Josip Fric says he is now taking care of his daughter's three children and finds comfort through prayer.
"Every woman in abuse... go forward... don't push anything behind...report to the police,” says Fric. “One single life in this world lost is still too much. Only one life, still too much.”
