LaSalle Police are looking for the culprits after three large trees were severely damaged with a chainsaw in Lafferty Park.

Officers received a report about the damaged trees last week.

Three Poplar trees were up to 60-feet high with wide bases of two or three feet. They had chainsaw cuts that were five to six inches deep on their trunks.

Police say the trees have not fallen over, but were essentially killed by this reckless act. The trees have the potential to fall on the adjacent homes or on the park area where children often play.

The Parks and Recreation Department has been contacted and officials are in the process of contacting a tree removal service to take the trees out safely.

Anyone with information on who is responsible can call LaSalle Police at 519-969-5210 X 0 or Crime Stoppers at 519-254-TIPS.
