After hours of debate, Windsor city council pledged its support to pay its portion of funding for the new mega hospital.

The hospital steering committee came before council during budget deliberations on Monday.

The plan calls for a new single-site acute-care hospital at County Road 42 and Concession 9, as well as a new urgent care centre at the former Grace Hospital site.

It also includes upgrades at the Tayfour Campus and Ouellette Campus.

The price tag is $2-billion and the province will cover 90 per cent of costs.

That leaves the city and county with their approval to pick up the remaining 10 per cent or roughly $200 million.

County council approved that funding in principle last week.

The city will now engage with the county for the appropriate cost-sharing model.
