The union representing 2,300 casino workers says contract talks are looking optimistic.
Unifor Local 444 president Dino Chiodo told the media at a news conference Thursday afternoon that the union and Caesars Windsor continue to work together on a new contract. Workers will walk off the job if an agreement isn’t reached by Friday, at 12:01 a.m.
“We aren't saying (Caesars Windsor) is giving us everything we want, but if we continue to see this progress, I think we can reach our goal,” says Chiodo. “I’m cautiously optimistic.”
Chiodo says a number of workplace issues are resolved, but the monetary package has yet to be dealt with. However, Chiodo says Caesars is showing some openness.
“If significant progress is being made and the company continues to listen to our issues, we would definitely stay at table,” he says. “If we start to see roadblocks, then there’s no more time for games and we'll be walking.”
Chiodo says the teams will continue to on a tentative agreement until the clock strikes zero.
“We're here until midnight to accomplish what we set out to do.”
CTV News has reached out to Caesars Windsor for comment, but our calls have not yet been returned.
