The Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit says members of the community may have been exposed to the measles virus.

According to the health unit, the possible exposure took place at Blenheim Arena, at 199 King St. on Saturday, between the hours of 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. The health unit is in the process of contacting individuals known to have been exposed to the virus who were at the arena.

As a precaution, the health unit is asking the community to watch for the signs and symptoms of the measles virus.

This includes:

  • Fever, cough and runny nose
  • Red, irritated eyes and light sensitivity
  • Small white, grey or blue spots in the mouth
  • A red, blotchy rash, which is the last symptom to appear. The rash appears on the face and then spreads down over the body, and will begin to fade after about a week.

If you develop symptoms, the health unit is asking you to stay home for at least four days after the rash starts. The measles is an airborn virus.

Before attending a clinic, doctor, or emergency department, call first and tell them you have measles symptoms.
