The Ontario Fire Mashal has determined a May 2013 blaze at an industrial building in west Windsor to be arson.

OFM has ruled that a major fire at Sprucewood Industries, a plastic recycling facility, was not an accident. Windsor police say “the matter is still being actively investigated”.

On May 21, 2013, huge plumes of black smoke and massive flames engulfed the industrial building. At the time, a ‘Stay in Place’ order for residents. The order was in affect for anyone within a 1.5 kilometre radius.

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit estimated 75 per cent of the plastic at the site, including tires, burned and caused the smoke to be extra irritant.

Anyone with information is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.
