The New Democrat MP in Essex has left for Ottawa to attend an emergency meeting on renegotiations for the North American Free Trade Agreement.

Tracey Ramsey is the Vice Chair of the Standing Committee for International Trade.

Ramsey and other opposition members called for Friday’s meeting to discuss the list of changes Washington officials want to make to NAFTA.

Ramsey tells CTV Windsor she's most concerned about the proposed changes to the way trade disputes are handled.

She says many jobs depend on NAFTA and changes could affect employment.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau would like to address the committee, and Ramsey says she's introduced a motion to her group to make that happen.

Negotiations between Canada, the United States and Mexico are expected to begin in mid-August.
