A 24-year-old Chatham man has been charged with impaired driving while operating a forklift.

Chatham-Kent police were called to Delaware Avenue in Chatham at 12:45 a.m. Tuesday morning for a traffic complaint.

Police say a man was operating a fork lift on the roadway with no functioning lights.  An officer found the man travelling eastbound on McNaughton Avenue.

Through investigation, the officer believed the man was driving the fork lift while under the influence of alcohol.  He was arrested and transported to police headquarters for breath tests.

The 24-year-old was charged with impaired driving, driving while disqualified and two counts of driving while under suspension.

Police say he will be released when sober.  Officers continue to investigate where the man acquired the fork lift.
