Unifor Local 444 is meeting with its executive and membership this weekend to discuss Windsor Assembly's plan to get out of ground transport services.

This move would affect  280 transport drivers at the plant.

This comes as local president Dino Chiodo is stepping down.

Sources say Chiodo has accepted a job with the union's national office as automotive director. He would start on Aug. 1.

Meantime, the union plans to try to find ways to save drivers' jobs.
On March 24, FCA officials told Unifor in writing that the company would eliminate ground transport services.

The job losses are slated to take effect September 24.

Chiodo says they've been working on finding an alternate option for workers. Plans could include travelling overseas to talk with FCA officials and having face to face conversations with executives in Ann Arbor, Mich.

He says the union is still considering all of its options.
