There is still no agreement in the 45 day long strike by 58 Essex County library workers.

Monday's meeting with a mediator lasted seven hours but no deal was finalized.

Local CUPE spokesperson Lori Wightman says they came to the table willing to finalize a new contract, but "we can't negotiate by ourselves."

Wightman claims the union came to the table with a new proposal, but the county kept the same offer on the table it has had all along.

A change in the county sick leave policy is main stumbling block.

Library board chair Richard Meloche released a statement saying he is disappointed they could not reach an agreement.

Meloche says the proposal brought forward by CUPE did not address the concerns of the current sick plan, which he calls antiquated.

Meloche adds they want a contract that is fair and reasonable to employees, while also being mindful of the taxpayer.
