Trustees with the Greater Essex County District School Board will not move forward with an accommodation review involving seven schools.

More than 100 people attended the board meeting Tuesday night, which had standing room only.

Some concerned parents had urged the board not to proceed.

In the report, administration had recommended closing Queen Victoria and Prince Edward elementary schools and sending students to a new school building.

Administration had also suggested closing Hugh Beaton and moving students to John Campbell, which could get a six-room addition.

A number of delegates made presentations about why the board should delay the review, saying the report is based on the 2011 census which may be unreliable.

They asked the board to wait until the 2016 census is available.

They also noted that Windsor's housing market is booming and unemployment is dropping, which means school enrolment could rise.

The board voted on the name for the new kindergarten to 12 school which combines W.F. Herman and Percy P. McCallum.

The new name will be W.F. Herman Academy, which should satisfy those parents who were urging that Herman's legacy be reflected in the new name.
