The Windsor-Essex County and Chatham-Kent health authorities have issued cold weather alerts for the regions.

Associate Medical Officer of Health Dr. Wajid Ahmed at the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit has a cold weather alert, effective until Friday. Chatham-Kent Public Health has also issued a cold weather alert.

Environment Canada predicts temperatures to dip to -16°C overnight Wednesday into Thursday morning. The overnight temperature forecast for Thursday evening into Friday morning is predicted to be -29°C with the wind chill.

If the temperature dips below -27°C, the alert will become an extreme cold weather alert.

The most common health problems associated with exposure to extreme cold are hypothermia and frostbite. More information on these conditions is available on the health unit’s website. https://www.wechu.org/emergency-preparedness/cold-weather-alert-windsor-essex
