Windsor-Tecumseh New Democrats have chosen the candidate who will represent the riding in this fall’s federal election.
Four people were contesting the nomination and in the end Cheryl Hardcastle was selected.
She says living in this region, she'll be able to address the priorities affecting her riding.
“Because I was deputy mayor, I do understand job creation strategy,” says Hardcastle. “Our national strategy for automotive and how that's impacted our affordable housing crisis. Those kinds of priorities politically.”
MP Joe Comartin announced months ago, that he would not be returning.
It was a full house at the Serbian Club as hundreds came out to vote for the NDP candidate for Windsor-Tecumseh.
Hardcastle won the majority of the 271 votes cast.
Bruce Moncur, Sandra Gonzalez and Patrick Hannon were also seeking the nomination.
Hardcastle says she felt seeking the nomination was a risk after losing the election for Tecumseh mayor.
