An Amherstburg resident claims the swarms of mosquitoes around her house have ruined her quality of life.
Brenda Kokko moved into a north end subdivision more than three years ago. She pleaded to town council for help on Monday night for her, and her neighbours who live in the Fraserville area.
Residents suspect the mosquitoes are coming from the Honeywell plant next door, where they say standing water is giving them a place to breed.
A spokesman from a company which works on the West Nile Virus program across Windsor and Essex County says there needs to be stepped up control.
“They need a nuisance program. A nuisance program involves starting in April in goes on until September,” says Mark Ardis from GDG Environment.
Ardis says it’s too late in the season to start the program now and it must be approved by council, as there’ll be an additional cost the town will need to pay.
Ardis wasn’t sure of a cost, but will present a report to council in the fall. In the mean time, Kokko says she and her neighbours will have to endure another summer of swatting.
