Windsor RCMP say a man has been arrested after about 232 cartons of contraband cigarettes were seized from a convenience store and a home.

On Friday, investigators searched a convenience store in the 1000 block of Campbell Avenue and a home in the 1000 block of Pierre Street in Windsor.

In addition to seized the contraband tobacco, Canadian cash and a vehicle were also seized.

RCMP Insp. Serge Cote said in a statement "The sale of contraband tobacco remains a threat to public safety and has been determined to support organized crime...The RCMP remains committed to disrupting and interdicting those persons involved in the illicit sale and distribution of contraband tobacco."

A 56-year-old Windsor man is facing charges of possession of unstamped tobacco and related offenses under the Excise Act.

He was released on a promise to appear and is scheduled to return to a Windsor court on Aug. 11th.
