The Art Gallery of Windsor will have to make some room for the city’s museum after council voted in favour of the idea of moving it.

The process is estimated to cost $6 million.

The city will apply for some federal grants and to wants to use $3 million left by the late Joseph Chimchuck to cover the price tag.

The amount was originally $1 million but the pot of cash has grown.

There’s been disagreement on how the money should be spent, as Chimchuck also left a number of stipulations and the funds are currently tied up in a legal battle.

City CAO Helga Reidel says the city will continue to pursue the matter.

“We have every intention of proceeding both with the court matter related to Chimchuck, and with council's direction for the museum."

Reidel says if all goes according to plan, construction would be completed by the middle of 2015.
