One person is dead after a small plane rented from the Windsor Flying Club crashed at Nashville International Airport early Tuesday.
David Gillies, president of the Windsor Flying Club, confirms the plane was rented by a member of the flying club Monday night and was being flown to Nashville.
Officials with the National Transportation Safety Board say the plane likely crashed sometime overnight, possibly around 3 a.m. or later.
It was discovered hours later by a crew taxiing in another plane, shortly before 9 a.m. Tuesday morning.
NTSB spokesperson Peter Knudson says the plane involved was a single-engine Cessna 172 registered in Canada under the ID C-GRJH.
A preliminary report from the NTSB is expected in 10 days.
Gillies says there are reports of foggy conditions at the time of the crash, when the pilot was attempting to land the plane.
The plane was completely destroyed in the crash.
Gillies adds that a letter has been sent out to the flying club's board members informing them of the crash.
The identity of the pilot won't be released until next of kin are informed.
