The president of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce is asking senators focus their debate on what Bill C-290 would permit, if passed, and not on the morals of the issue.

If the senate agrees to the bill the provinces would have a policy lever to decide whether or not wagering on the outcome of a single sport event would be permitted, and what if any conditions would be imposed.

Windsor-Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce received national support from the Canadian Chamber when a resolution was passed at the annual general meeting in September.

Windsor-Essex chamber president, Matt Marchand says he’s thankful the national organization is not forgetting it’s commitment to support single sports betting.

"We are thankful for the national support we've received on this important economic issue and are especially thankful to our resolution co-sponsors."

Senators are still debating merits of the bill after some national sports organizations claimed single sports betting could lead to game fixing.

Still the bill has passed in the House of Commons and also has the support of some local labour leaders and federal politicians like M.P.’s Brian Masse and Joe Comartin who introduced the private members bill almost two years ago
