Construction crews are cleaning up after steel beams crashed to the ground at a University of Windsor construction site.

Holly Ward, chief communications officer at the university, says the incident was contained to the construction site.

“There was no risk to students and no students were hurt,” says Ward.

She says it happened at about 4:30 a.m. Friday morning at the site of the new Innovation Centre.

“From what we understand from the contractor is there was a few steel beams involved in a partial collapse,” says Ward.

The contractor is undergoing a full investigation and will provide a report to the university.

The Innovation Centre is a separate building beside a new parking garage. Ward says it will be mostly offices and will be open in January 2014.
