Windsor police are commending a Good Samaritan for honesty and integrity after turning over a package with a substantial amount of money.

The male owner claimed the cash at 11:50 a.m. on Monday.

“I'm sure the person who found the money can sleep easy knowing that they did the right thing and it's a good feeling,” says Sgt. Matthew D’Asti. “It's a good ending to what could have been a bad situation."

Police say it was found in a parking lot of a business in south Windsor on Saturday night.  The store manager called police Sunday morning and told them a citizen found the package between two parked cars.

Before the money could be claimed, the owner had to accurately describe the packaging, where it was lost and the amount of currency and its denominations. He also provided his vehicle and plate information and it matched one of the vehicles in the immediate area the money was found.

He also produced an identical package that the money was found in.
