Normandy Street in LaSalle has been temporarily renamed after a fallen police officer.

The road has been renamed Robert Carrick Way for one week.

Carrick was a 22-year-old constable for Sandwich West police, now LaSalle, when he was fatally shot responding to a domestic call on Aug. 23, 1969.

Before the shooting, Carrick had secured the safety of a mother, child and babysitter.

Two other officers were injured and one lost an eye.

The suspect ended up serving 10 years in jail.

A ceremony naming a bridge over the Herb Grey Parkway after Carrick is scheduled for Sunday morning at town hall.
