As the region battled steamy temperatures on Friday, Environment Canada also issued severe thunderstorm watches and warnings.

The thunderstorm bulletin was issued for Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent and surrounding areas, as conditions became favourable for the development of severe weather that could create damaging winds, hail and isolated tornadoes.

Environment Canada issued the heat warning late Thursday, as a system that was predicted to bring humidex values near 40 C moved in Friday afternoon.

This extreme heat may prove dangerous to older adults, infants, children and those with chronic illness. Environment Canada recommends people drink plenty of liquids to combat dehydration.

A cold front is forecast to move into the region Friday night, bringing temperatures in the low 20s.
