A report out by a Mississauga firm found future enrollment at Windsor and Essex County Catholic schools is looking grim long term.

The report out by Watson and Associates looked at a 15-year enrollment trend at the Windsor Essex Catholic District School Board.

They project student enrollment at both the elementary and secondary levels in Windsor and Essex County, will drop by nearly 6,000 students.

Catholic elementary schools in Windsor will see 1,500 fewer students, while elementary schools in Essex County will see a drop of 1,800 children.

At the high school level, the report indicates student enrollment is expected to go down by 2,700 students.

School board officials say there are many factors that contribute to this trend, but one major factor is immigration, with the amount of families settling in Windsor-Essex that are not Catholic.
