Essex County Council has ratified a four-year deal with its inside and outside workers.

Two councillors were opposed, but the deal passed.

The tentative deal had earlier been approved by the municipal workers, whose union leader Ian Nash suggested no one was interested in the potential of a lengthy strike such as we have seen with county library workers.

It was a full house Wednesday night, with many members of Local 2974 in attendance.

The approved deal includes a two per cent pay increase each year, along with a $1,500 signing bonus for full-time staff.

The workers also accepted a contentious change to sick time policy.

Deputy library chair Richard Meloche said there are no plans to return to the table with library workers.
