Environment Canada says a period of very cold wind chills is expected for Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent.
The national forecaster issued an extreme cold warning for the regions. The warning ended at 12:39 p.m.
The Windsor –Essex Health Unit also issued a cold weather alert on Wednesday. It is in effect until at least Friday.
Strong southwest winds combined with cold temperatures were producing wind chill values near -30 C. These conditions persisted for the morning hours, but temperatures moderated somewhat Thursday afternoon.
Anyone who isn't dressed warmly is at risk in cold weather conditions. Some people are at greater risk than others for frostbite and hypothermia, such as homeless people, outdoor workers, seniors and infants.
