WINDSOR, Ont. - Windsor RCMP say they are laying charges against a man after an investigation into the sale and distribution of contraband tobacco products.

Investigators say on Thursday they seized more than 250 cartons of illegal cigarettes from a residence and convenience store after executing search warrants.

RCMP say they also found about $2,200 in cash.

An inspector in the case says selling contraband tobacco is "not a victim-less crime," as profits often benefit criminal organizations.

A 26-year-old man is set to appear in court on Sept. 9.

Hasanain Al-Khalidi of Windsor is charged with unlawful possession and sale of unstamped tobacco products, and one count of proceeds of crime contrary to the Excise Act 2001.
