More relief is on the way to prevent basement flooding, all on the City of Windsor’s tab.
City council decided Monday evening to double its commitment to the Basement Flooding Protection Subsidy Program, setting aside $500,000 in the 2014 budget. Council previously invested $250,000.
The increase in funding is due to the success the program has already seen. To date, more than 800 homeowners have taken advantage of the program.
"If we can take steps to do two things, reduce the incident of floods and address some of these insurance issues, then it's obviously the right way to go," says councillor Bill Marra.
Eligible residents can receive up to $2,800 toward the cost of installing flood prevention measures, including backwater valves and sump pumps.
Residents can call 311 for more details.
