An announcement is expected soon unveiling a new program designed to attract more business downtown by paying them to come.

Downtown Windsor Business Improvement Association chair Larry Horwitz says it will entice a variety of different types of shops.

“Bakery shops, butcher shops, pastry shops, hardware stores," says Horwitz. “This program will supplement the rent and some of the cost of these speciality shops that come to do business."

The owner of Full Circle Vintage Clothing Sarah DeLuca says she wishes an incentive was available when she set up shop five months ago.

“I think that's a good idea offering whatever they're willing to offer," says DeLuca.

She says there are times she feels embarrassed at the number of empty stores downtown.

The DWBIA says an announcement will be made in the coming weeks regarding the retail recruitment funds.

Horwitz says a large financial budget has been set aside solely for this purpose.

“Retail recruitment is our number one priority, retail recruitment will make this downtown a better place," says Horwitz.
