An Edmonton, Alta., trucking company and a Markham, Ont., truck driver have been fined $75,000 for possessing live Asian carp in the province.
Alltheway Trucking Inc. and Yong-Sheng Zhang were found guilty under the federal Fisheries Act for possessing live invasive fish. An Ontario court made the ruling Thursday.
The truck crossed the Ambassador Bridge into Windsor on Jan. 25, 2012. Canadian Boarder Services Agents contacted the Ministry of Natural Resources to assist with the inspection.
The Lake Erie Enforcement Unit inspected the truck and found that some of the carp were still alive. An Ontario court made the ruling on
On Feb. 28, 2012, the same truck and driver crossed at the bridge carrying another load of carp. An inspection found some of the fish to be alive.
These fish have been illegal to possess live since 2005.
