Roughly 60 elderly residents at Brouillette Manor have been moved offsite, after a ceiling collapse led to an evacuation.

One by one residents were assisted by crews, forced to leave the place they now call home.

A failure in a 2 inch pipe that cracked led to the collapse of a portion of the ceiling.

Tecumseh fire, EMS, and OPP were called to Brouillette Manor around 4 p.m. Wednesday.

It took several hours to evacuate most of the elderly residents, several of them wheelchair bound.

Following the evacuation, residents were taken to the Royal Canadian Legion in Tecumseh, where they were treated by emergency services.

Residents were later relocated to other health care facilities, family and friends.

Officials say damage is unknown, but say the cold weather is not believed to be a factor.

It remains unclear when resident will be able to return home.
