The Special investigations Unit is investigating after a serious crash involving two motorcycles that injured a 23-year-old man on Riverside Drive West.

The collision took place at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday morning on Riverside at Campbell Avenue.

SIU investigators say preliminary information shows Windsor police officers attempted to stop a group of motorcyclists in the area of Riverside Drive and Ouellette Avenue. A short time later, some of the motorcycles were involved in a collision at Riverside Drive and Campbell Avenue.

One of the motorcyclists was taken to hospital for treatment of a fractured ankle, say investigators.

The SIU has assigned three investigators, two forensic investigators and one collision reconstructionist to probe the circumstances of this incident.

Riverside was closed between Mcewan Avenue and Bridge Avenue for the investigation. It has since been reopened.

The SIU is an arm's length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
