Three teenage males have been arrested and police are searching for another male after 14 cases of beer were taken from The Beer Store in Windsor.
Windsor police responded to the alarm at the store at 8150 Tecumseh Road East at 1:30 a.m. on Monday.
A witness told police three to four males were loading beer into the bed of a white pickup truck. The truck fled northbound on Lauzon Road. Officers arrived into the area within minutes and spotted the suspect vehicle stopped northbound on Virginia at Wyandotte Street East.
Police say when they activated the emergency lighting, the vehicle suddenly accelerated and fled eastbound on Wyandotte Street East, hitting the police cruiser as it turned. A short pursuit ensued, but was quickly terminated for safety reasons.
The police cruiser sustained minor damage and there were no injuries.
The business sustained minor damage to the front doors and 14 cases of beer were stolen.
While investigating, officers received information about a possible suspect and his location. At 5:05 a.m., officers arrested two males walking in the area of Bloomfield and Prince.
Police then arrested third from an apartment unit in the 3400 block of Peter Street at 5:40 a.m.
Search warrants were executed at the Peter Street apartment and at a residence in the 3500 block of Bloomfield. Police say evidence was gathered from both places and most of the stolen goods were recovered.
At about 4:45 a.m. Monday, Windsor firefighters responded to a vehicle fire in the 3400 block of Russell Street. Officers say it was the same vehicle used in the earlier break and enter. It was reported stolen from the 3600 block of Wells Street.
Police say the suspects were also involved in a break-in at a Petro Canada gas bar in the 100 block of King Street West in Harrow on Sunday night. Stolen items included lottery tickets, cigarettes and energy drinks.
Three males face the following charges:
- 18-year-old male of Windsor - break and enter x 2, possession of stolen property x 3
- 19-year-old male of Windsor - break and enter, possession of stolen property x 3
- 19-year-old male of Windsor - theft of motor vehicle, possession of stolen property x 3, break & enter x 3, dangerous driving, fail to stop for police, possession of break-in tools x 3, arson, breach of recognizance, mischief under $5000.
