A Tecumseh man is closing in on quite the milestone, having won hundreds of contests in just four years.
Kurt Winkler claims to be the most charmed man in all of Windsor-Essex. Over the past couple of years, Winkler says he has won a total of 499 contests – the most recent coming just over the weekend.
“I’m an extreme contester if you want to call it that,” he says.
Winkler has won everything from concerts and sporting games, to gift cards and books. He’s even won some obscure items like walking poles. In total, the Tecumseh father believes he has won nearly $100,000 worth of gifts and prizes.
“Is it an addiction? No … but it is.”
His secret? Well, Winkler chalks it up to being a mixture of right-time-right-place and reading the fine print.
"There's an old saying that you could spend a thousand hours a year reading the fine prints and terms and conditions of a contest. Trust me it's in your benefit to read the first, at least three or four paragraphs."
Eventually all things must come to an end. Winkler says he will likely give up his contest obsession once his children are a little older, but until then he says he will continue to play and hopefully win.
