A Leamington high school will benefit from a local businessman’s lotto win.
Michael Schlater of Leamington won the $250,000 top prize playing Instant Cadillac Riches. He already made plans for the money when he walked into the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to collect his earnings.
“I will be donating my winnings to my son’s high school in Leamington,” says Schlater, a father of three. “The school is in need of a computer system upgrade and this donation will help them get it.”
The 54-year-old man says he has been playing the lottery for nearly thirty years.
“When I found out I had a winning instant scratch ticket it was a huge thrill,” he says. “It’s the most I’ve ever won. My wife couldn’t believe it and started crying.”
Schlater says he can’t think of a better way to invest his winnings.
“We are very blessed with where we are in life,” he says. “Now we have the ability to help and that’s what we plan to do.”
The winning ticket was purchased at Jack’s Mini Mart & Coffee Shop on Talbot Street in Leamington.
The OLG says Instant Cadillac Riches is available for $10 a play and the top prize is $250,000. Odds of winning a prize are 1 in 3.28.
