The Lakeshore Canadiens hockey team is mourning the loss of one of their players.

The team said in a Facebook post that they are deeply saddened by the passing of Sylvain Lessard.

The general manager confirmed he died in a crash between an SUV and a tractor trailer on County Road 42 west of Patillo Road on Tuesday night.

According to OPP, the 20-year-old driver of the SUV was pronounced deceased on scene and the driver of the tractor trailer was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

“Sylvain was a highly skilled player who spent his minor hockey in the Windsor AAA system,” said the post.

He played two years of junior B with the Leamington Flyers. Last year he joined the PJHL with the Wheatley Sharks. Lessard recently joined the Canadiens, where the team said he immediately made an impact both on and off the ice.

“He was a great teammate and a joy to be around at all times. His infectious smile and pleasant conversation will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Lessard family and his many friends at this time,” said the team.
