The Windsor police forensics unit was combing through a LaSalle home on Friday.

Investigators were carrying out evidence from the residence on Carriage Lane. Police say the home belongs to Matthew Brush and his parents.

Brush, 26, is charged with the first degree murder of Cassandra Kaake, 31, who was found dead in her home on Benjamin Avenue on Dec. 11 after a fire. She was seven months pregnant.

Brush is also charged with arson with disregard for human life, arson causing property damage, possession of incendiary material for arson, break and enter, and indecent interference with a dead body.

In a news conference on Thursday, Windsor police Staff Sgt. Mark Denonville said Brush was familiar with the Kaake family. He also said Kaake was an innocent victim.

Brush is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 11.
