Essex OPP is warning the public of an ongoing scam, which involves the sale of door-to-door goods.
Provincial police says this scam starts with someone cold-call door knocking to sell a product or service, such as driveway paving, roofing, or lawn care. The suspect typically uses pressure tactics to convince homeowner on the sale.
Once a cash deposit is received, the suspect won’t return or will do the job poorly at a much greater cost.
Elderly residents are typically the target victim of these scams, but OPP says all homeowners are at risk. To avoid becoming a victim, citizens should always ask for business references before signing any contract.
If anyone suspects they have been targeted by one of these scam, they are urged to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
