After months of waiting, Windsorites will soon be able to skate at Charles Clark Square, but it won’t be on synthetic ice.

Mayor Eddie Francis says he’s not happy with the quality of the synthetic ice, and has ordered it be removed and replaced with the real thing.

It’s been a long drawn out process for the instillation of the 70’ by 90’ synthetic ice pad. Originally, the downtown rink was scheduled to open on Jan. 13, but weather conditions delayed the instillation.

Council approved the $56,000 ice surface back in December.

The city will install the real ice next week.

It’s unclear what will now happen with the synthetic pad.
