The largest sporting event to ever take place in Windsor hit Riverfront Festival Plaza on Saturday.

An estimated 11,000 people took to the pavement for the Color Run, also known as the happiest 5KM run across the planet.

For many Windsorites, it's all about getting dirty and a chance to party it up, while giving back to the community.

"It's the happiest run on the planet, I do it every year and I love it." says participant Alex Kajtar.

The Rose City was the first Canadian stop of 2013.

Each participant starts in white, and slowly becomes a running piece of artwork, as coloured cornstarch is thrown from all directions.

The event is held in 30 countries across the world.

A portion of the money raised will go to the Alzheimer's Society of Windsor-Essex County.

The Color Run will make its next stop in London, August 17th.
