Three Essex businesses have been shut down and the town has asked occupants asked to leave the buildings immediately.

The town’s decision is based on safety concerns following an incident on April 4. A large panel of stucco at 49 Talbot St N fell and landed on the roof of 47 Talbot.

The affected businesses are 2 Waves Day Spa at 47 Talbot, 1st Defence School of Martial Arts at 49 Talbot and Deluxe Restaurant at 51 Talbot.

Until safety issues are addressed, businesses will remain closed. An emergency meeting is planned for 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at town hall.

Council has two options – to tear the building down or to spend thousands in repairs.

The mayor hopes to have a decision Tuesday so affected businesses can reopen as soon as possible, but it’s likely at least another two weeks away.
