Windsor and Tecumseh torchbearers have been revealed for the upcoming torch relay leading up to the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games

Boxer Mary Spencer will carry the torch for Windsor, while former NHLer Mark Renaud will lead the relay in Tecumseh.

The Pan Am flame will visit the region on June 16 and 17.

Spencer is one of Canada's premier boxing champions, holding eight national titles, five Pan American titles, and three world titles.

“Mary Spencer will proudly carry the Pan Am flame as Windsor’s community torchbearer,” said Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens.  “Windsor is thrilled to be a part of this historic journey and we look forward sharing the excitement.”

Renaud played in the NHL for the Hartford Whalers and Buffalo Sabres and is a member of the Windsor Essex County Sports Hall of Fame.  His son Mickey passed away suddenly in 2008 when he was captain of the Windsor Spitfires.  He will be carrying the torch in Mickey’s honour and memory.

During the 41-day torch relay, each of the 3,000 torchbearers will complete, on average, a 200-metre relay segment. The torch will be carried by more than 60 modes of transportation and exceed 5,000 kilometres on the road and 15,000 kilometres by air.

The torch relay starts May 30 and finishes July 10 with the lighting of the cauldron at the opening ceremony in downtown Toronto.
