Windsor city council has unanimously approved a massive clock tower at a prominent Erie Street roundabout.

As CTV Windsor first shared back in April, the clock will stand 33 feet above the street scape at the roundabout at Parent and Erie Street. It will be dedicated to longtime family doctor Lazarus Jovanovic.

The citizen project is being fully funded by business owners and residents in the Via Italia district.

The Erie Street BIA hopes to have the clock tower installed in the next six weeks, ready to be unveiled at the annual Tour de Via Italia bicycle races on Labour Day weekend.

Erie Street BIA chair Teresa Silvestri says it will be for the whole city to enjoy.

“It’s going to mean something different for each of us,” Silvestri said after council endorsed the plan. “To me, it’s like my mother and father working hard, and grandparents coming here to make a new life. So that’s what the symbolism is behind this clock for a lot of us.”
