Communities across the province are joining together in a referendum to save local hospitals.

The volunteer campaign will kick off on Monday at various locations in an effort to stop cuts that organizers say have created dangerous overcrowding and understaffing.

Locally, the Windsor Health Coalition and the Ontario Health Coalition will outline plans at a new campaign office on Walker Road, beginning at 11:30 a.m.

The coalition says Windsor Regional Hospital is facing numerous cuts. About 169 registered nursing positions are on the chopping block and outpatient clinics are threatened with closure.

More details about the referendum will be available on Monday.
